MIDWINTER MULLED RED: if the holiday season has a smell (which I guess it kind of does), this is it. Over the winter period in much of northwestern Europe, holiday gatherings are often made all the more cheery with a batch of warmed red wine fortified with spices and citrus. Definitely best with a full-bodied, fruit-forward red wine and maybe a little nip of brandy or Swedish aquavit to turn things up a little. Skal!
